World Record Bear Shot

A man in Pennsylvania recently shot a bear whose skull measured 23 9/16 inches. The Saskatchewan provincial record is 22 11/16 inches, less than one inch from the new world record.  This suggests that the combination of genetics plus environment could put the next world record balck bear already wondering the forests of northern Saskatchewan.  Who will be the hunter that sets the next world record?

Good Bear Numbers for Saskatchewan

Outdoor Canada magazine recently reported that Saskatchewan hunters should expect good bear population from the farmland-forest fringe through to northern forest hunting regions.

While some species such as deer have seen population declines due to a number of hard winters in a row, the hibernation of bears protects them from this and populations are stable or increasing.
